First single: Sapari

avatar 16 December 2009 by Nathalie Share

The first official release of Orphaned Land is the single “Sapari”. This single is available only on radios in Japan and Israel, but of course with the magic of Internet the songs is fully available for everyone here.

But don’t expect to get any hard copies of it. There is none!

As explained before, Sapari is originally a Yemenite folklore song, and those who looked around the internet already found out that Shlomit Levy has this song in her own repertoire.

But how did the song end up as an Orphaned land’s piece? Discover it in the following extracts from an interview of Shlomit that we did lately.

Orphaned Land: new YouTube channel and new video

avatar 25 November 2009 by Nathalie Share

YT_logoAgain we can inform you on some great news! Finally there is a glimpse of the new songs from “Orwarrior” in the shape of a teaser video for the “A Heaven you may create” documentary, that has been posted on the band’s brand new YouTube channel. Reading the official statement from Orphaned Land, we may conclude that we are in for a whole series of videos from the band.

To continue on the theme, there is a new website available that gives information on the documentary “A Heaven you may create” which Matan Shmuely shot during the recordings of the album. With this, Matan really succeeded to give a unique inside look at a unique metal band that strives to break through political and religious barriers with their music!

The documentary will in fact be released as a DVD that is part of the limited edition of “The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR”.

Go to a heaven you may create.com to read more about the documentary.

Here is the official news:

On February, 9th 2010 (January 25th in Europe) the wait is finally over! Israel’s ORPHANED LAND will finally release their highly anticipated fourth studio opus The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR. Mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Opeth), who is also responsible for several keyboard parts on the new album, The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR turns out to be a sophisticated concept album taking ORPHANED Land’s unique brand of exotic, heavy music to soaring new heights in terms of complexity and catchiness.

The band is preparing to launch a series of introspective webisodes documenting the making of the album and the first album trailer can be viewed now at the band’s official new YouTube page, so click on the link below to check it out. This clip features some commentary from Steven Wilson and the band mixed in with live performance footage from Tel Aviv and stay tuned to this YouTube page as they’ll be updating it with new videos leading up to the album’s release.

The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR is an audible manifest that the time has come for Middle Eastern metal to take over! Head over now to Orphaned Land’s MySpace to view the band’s controversial new photos.

Israel’s ORPHANED LAND are probably the only band from this country that has managed to succeed at building up a huge following among Muslims and Arabian people. These fans communicate freely via the band’s social networking pages, some of them even proudly bearing ORPHANED LAND tattoos, regardless of the possible consequences facing them in their home countries! The African musician Fela Kuti once said: “music is the weapon of the future” – ORPHANED LAND are living proof of that!

15. In Thy Never Ending Way (Epilogue)

“The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR” is a concept album revolving around a hero: the warrior of light.

This hero isn’t someone specific, but could be the listener of the album himself, as this album deals with the problems we are facing in our lives every day. Especially here, in the Middle East, we feel that we are trapped in a loop of confusion and darkness. Living in this region, we see that year after year nothing changes. People continue to die in useless wars and we are trapped in a bloody circle.

ORPHANED LAND has been around for 18 years and we continue to sing about the same subjects and stories, because after 18 years we are still living in a tragic, orphaned land. To fight this tragedy we have chosen a peaceful, yet powerful weapon: our music.

…And the Disciples have a surprise for you underneath! Enjoy!

Interview with Kobi by Greg Hasbrouck

avatar 2 October 2009 by Nathalie Share

Ahead of their show at ProgPower USA, Greg Hasbrouck interviewed Kobi in June 2009 for the official interview site of the festival; “The Art of Prog”. This turned out to be a very interesting and in-depth discussion on the concept of ORwarriOR, songwriting, being a musician from Israel, Kobi’s worldview, working with Steven Wilson and of course ProgPower.

The first part of the interview was -until now- only available on said website. The second part of the interview was kept exclusive for the official (printed) ProgPower USA program which was handed out to attendees of the festival. Until now that is, because Greg and ProgPower USA (Glenn) have generously agreed to make the complete interview available for you through our website. The disciples are very grateful to them for their kind gesture.

I know the text is long, but as a fan of the band you should really read it, because it gives you a lot of information about the person(s) and thoughts behind the music and makes you feel even more proud to be part of this positive vibe that is called Orphaned Land.
